Office should be available for Android and iOS at the beginning of 2013

Microsoft has kept quiet in regards to its plans of Office for Android and iOS, although, the version for these platforms should be launched during the first months of next year.

Windows Phone 8, Redmond’s operating system for smartphones launched on October 29, has Office preinstalled in the devices that have that platform.

It will first arrive for iOS, late February or early March, and then would reach Google’s operating systems, Android.

Office for Android and iOS would start as a free application that would allow users to see Office documents on their devices. In this mode, you would be able to open Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.

The tools for editing those files will be basic (as it is not meant to replace the Office desktop version) and should be available with a subscription to Office 365, Microsoft’s cloud solution set geared toward businesses.

In order to use it, you will have to have a Microsoft Account, the account that is replacing the Windows Live ID, which is to be used across all of the products of the makers of Windows.
